Dad Update

As I mentioned briefly yesterday, Dad’s back in the hospital.  The folks at the recovery center had become concerned because he’d become confused, and their doctor recommended we send him to the Emergency Room for evaluation.  It was a long, tedious night, full of a lack of information.  As it got along toward morning, Dad seemed to be doing a whole lot better.  The current tentative diagnosis is that he has a urinary tract infection and was also perhaps reacting to the pain medication he’s on for his diabetic neuropathy.   He was much more lucid when I went home at 4:00 AM this morning and I hope to get more information today.

Right now, and I’m just guessing, they’ll pump him full of antibiotics for the next couple of days and then send him back to the recovery center in a couple of days.

But at this time, his recovery seems to have plateaued, and I don’t see that he will be able to go home and live on his own anymore.

Word of advice:  buy yourself some long-term care insurance.  I think that this is going to be ugly, financially speaking.
